Corals

Hello, Caribbean Sea lovers! Ready to dive into the beauty of the reefs of Cancun and Cozumel? These underwater paradises are home to incredible marine life, but they are at risk and need our help!

Corals are like the foundations of this vibrant ecosystem. They protect us from the waves, give us white sandy beaches, and are home to thousands of species. But climate change, pollution, and irresponsible tourism are threatening them.

Fortunately, there are many efforts underway to protect them! In Cozumel, the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program (CCRRP) leads the active restoration of damaged reefs by planting new coral fragments. They also conduct crucial research on coral reproduction and diseases, as well as educate tourists and locals on how to protect these ecosystems.

Organizations such as Oceanus A.C. are also implementing large-scale reef restoration programs, with the planting of thousands of coral colonies in various sites. Their approach includes training local communities and promoting sustainable tourism that benefits conservation.

Furthermore, the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation is using innovative biotechnological methods for the sexual reproduction of corals, which increases the genetic diversity and resilience of new corals.

What can we do? Much more than you imagine! From choosing reef-friendly sunscreens to avoiding touching or damaging corals during our dives or snorkeling. Every little action counts to preserve this natural wonder.

When you explore the reefs, remember to be a respectful visitor. Admire their beauty without disturbing their home! Together we can ensure that future generations also enjoy these underwater treasures. The coral paradise needs us!
